Hi all,

I noticed a cool feature proposal on GitHub (issue 3007 <https://github.com/nmap/nmap/issues/3007>). It basically
suggests a new feature for returning the (complete) list of DNS records obtained — through reverse DNS lookups — from
an IP address. If it matches with the map product roadmap, I’d like to start implementing it. Is there some maintainer
who could give me a brief feedback about it?
Yes, this was my fault. Mail to the Nmap dev list from non-subscribers
goes through moderation to keep out the spam. I regularly go through the
moderation queue to find and approve the "real" messages, but I was a bit
slow this time. We strongly recommend that folks posting to the list first
subscribe to it. This avoids the moderation delay and prevents them from
missing any responses which might only be sent to the list.
https://github.com/nmap/nmap/pull/2954
The PR includes following three commits:
- Fix out of bounds read in HopByHopHeader::validate
- Fix out of bounds read in PacketParser::split
- Add AFL test code for PacketParser
This was found as a part of a short Hackathon at NCC Group.
to see this fixed.
Hey,
I have one quibble: We are using "reasoning" in a qualitative, not
descriptive, form here -- "fuzzing is or is not reasoning", "LLMs reason or
successful at finding crashes. Somebody that needs to light a fire and
grasp for a lot of people because they *think *they have *memories*. They
wrongly think memory is a noun instead of a verb, which is ok in philosophy
Hi Andrew,

This is a good idea.
BMS/BAS/DCIM are integrating with or becoming modules of one another
and IPAM may or may not be a feature included.
If you do go down the DCIM rabbit hole you may consider indicating if
opensource or not.
There are a lot of big players that require a matching budget in this segment
P.S. never tried Sunbird sorry
I am noticing some of the solutions are lost to time. Modern PHP is
not as horrible as days of past. I was just updating the wiki and
found that Racktables is active-ish and supports IPv6 addressing so
that was neat.
All

Many updates to https://lathama.net/Tech/Basics/DCIM and as time
allows I will add some more columns to the table. One question if
anyone has used Sunbird DCIM can you comment if it has an IPAM?

I think my next step will...
I used this extensively at my last job, ~15 years ago. It was pretty good
for its time. Some design quirks, but nothing outlandish. It's heavy PHP
based though, which at the time did make it easy to modify for our needs ,
but PHP also sucks, so there's that. :)

It has been abandoned though, hasn't been updated in more than a decade.
Won't run with any even remotely recent version of PHP, so I really
wouldn't recommend...
Saku

Good points. An API or tooling always important. I have experienced
that for support and operational groups on-boarding to a Web User
Interface is just easier. We are rarely the only users of an IPAM or
DCIM.
I added all the other suggestions to my list and think that I might make
I feel like most/all of these make a huge mistake starting as 'i am
Instead of 'I'm going to make a number allocation system'

IPv4, IPv6, port, vlan, RT, RD, PWID, customer#, endless list of
numbers you want to allocate and 90% of the logic is agnostic to the
There's also a Netbox fork called Nautobot, by Network to Code. They went their own way with it to support their vision
of automation compatibility:
Another new player in the same space is Infrahub. I haven't tried it yet but there are some interesting new concepts,
Well. Im using .txt files for years to handle network stuff.
So, I will ask question.. How much addresses you need to keep track of?

Im small shop, but if you scale is not big I can hand you my tools ;)

% blgrep -c -a - hosts.txt
+ Sum (Aggregated)
Count: 5313

Pros of .txt files. VCS (SVN or GIT) friendly. You can have history,
generate diffs :) They will run anywhere.

Cons: well, its CLI and some people are alergic to it..
