The vertical axis lists countries: Pakistan, Indonesia, China, Russia, and India. The horizontal axis represents the years, moving from 2004 on the left to 2022 on the right. Each country has a line connecting data points from 2004 to 2022. The percentage of respondents who expressed homophobic views is shown at each endpoint: - Pakistan starts at 100% in 2004, decreasing to 91% in 2022. - Indonesia begins at 98% and slightly declines to 93%. - China decreases from 87% to 83%. - Russia shows a decline from 71% to 75%. - India starts at 52% in 2004 and climbs to 65% in 2022. The graph includes a note explaining the data: it represents the share of people responding on a scale of 1-10 to the question regarding the justification of homosexuality, with values between 1 to 4 indicating a negative stance. The data source is the Integrated Values Surveys from 2024, and the graph is attributed to "Our World in Data" with a CC BY license." loading="lazy" width="1620" height="1620"/></picture></div><div class="latest-data-insights__card-right"><p class="data-insight-dateline latest-data-insights__card-dateline"><svg aria-hidden="true" focusable="false" data-prefix="fas" data-icon="calendar-day" class="svg-inline--fa fa-calendar-day data-insight-dateline__icon" role="img" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" viewBox="0 0 448 512"><path fill="currentColor" d="M128 0c17.7 0 32 14.3 32 32l0 32 128 0 0-32c0-17.7 14.3-32 32-32s32 14.3 32 32l0 32 48 0c26.5 0 48 21.5 48 48l0 48L0 160l0-48C0 85.5 21.5 64 48 64l48 0 0-32c0-17.7 14.3-32 32-32zM0 192l448 0 0 272c0 26.5-21.5 48-48 48L48 512c-26.5 0-48-21.5-48-48L0 192zm80 64c-8.8 0-16 7.2-16 16l0 96c0 8.8 7.2 16 16 16l96 0c8.8 0 16-7.2 16-16l0-96c0-8.8-7.2-16-16-16l-96 0z"></path></svg>August 18</p><h3 id="latest-data-insights__card-title-3" class="latest-data-insights__card-title">Hostility toward homosexuality remains common in many of the world’s largest countries</h3><div class="latest-data-insights__card-body"><p class="article-block__text col-start-5 span-cols-6 col-md-start-3 span-md-cols-10 span-sm-cols-12 col-sm-start-2"><span>This chart shows the share of people who say homosexuality cannot be justified across five of the world’s most populous countries.</span></p><p class="article-block__text col-start-5 span-cols-6 col-md-start-3 span-md-cols-10 span-sm-cols-12 col-sm-start-2"><span>Together, these countries are home to </span><span><span>nearly half</span></span><span> of the global population.
